Session 1.2
Are your Revit Templates and Standards a little old and crusty?
Synopsis:
In this interactive presentation & discussion, we will review some of the strategies and tactics for slimming down your Revit templates and Project files without giving up the control you need to maintain BIM standards. We will also discuss some of the pitfalls of careless cleaning. The same strategies apply to auditing and cleaning up your current Revit families as well.
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss and learn about content and settings that should be considered part of your Revit Templates & Families.
2. Learn how styles, such as Object Style sub-categories, fill patterns, line styles, etc. can find their way into your projects unexpectedly.
3. Learn some of the Revit Template cleaning techniques and some of the dangers in brute-force cleaning & purging.
Body:
Are you a BIM Manager, Project Manager, BIM Standards committee member, or even an end user who is in-charge of creating and maintaining Revit Project and Template Standards? As projects are getting larger and more complex, and project delivery timetables are getting shorter, we find it easy to push aside the need to do comprehensive reviews, or re-reviews, of our Revit Templates and Project standards. As time continues to go on, our standards tend to age, making them a little old and crusty. The lack of up-to-date standards in our Revit Templates & Families can easily find their way into new projects, making model reviews and cleanups take longer. In some cases, you can infect your Revit projects with unwanted content and styles.
In this interactive (yes, let’s get your feedback too!) presentation & discussion, we will review some of the strategies and tactics for slimming down your Revit templates and Project files without giving up the control you need to maintain BIM standards. Some topics of discussion are:
1. What items should be defined in your Revit Templates? What items should not be defined in your Revit templates? Do you agree? Do you disagree?
2. What template items must be addressed and how.
3. Cleaning and Purging your Templates and Projects.
4. Are there items and content in your Revit Templates and Projects that have plagued you?
5. A brief demonstration on how we use Ideate Software products to address some of content, including styles that plague Revit Templates and Projects. Note: Other software could also be used for cleanup as well.
